Meet the Ensemble
While our home is in Midland, we are a growing collective of 60 musicians from across the region. Our members hail from Barrie to Meaford to Muskoka and beyond. Our members represent a wide range of musical backgrounds from professional musicians all the way to advanced high school students. We are dedicated to performing original music for wind band to the highest standard, delivering unique and engaging experiences to our rapidly growing audience base.

Why Join the Georgian Shores Concert Band?
1. Perform exciting repertoire by today’s leading wind band composers. Composers we have performed include Frank Ticheli, Omar Thomas, Cait Nishimura, John Mackey, Julie Giroux, and more.
2. Play for an enthusiastic and growing audience from across the Georgian Bay region. Many of our concerts play to a full house.
3. Make great music without an overwhelming schedule. We perform just three main concerts each season and intentionally keep our rehearsal and performance commitments manageable for musicians with busy careers and lives.
What level of proficiency do I need?
Some of the literature that our band performs is complex. Prospective members should have the ability to perform grade five concert band music.
Is an audition required?
Prospective members are welcome to attend a few rehearsals to get a sense of the band prior to auditioning.
When does the band rehearse?
Our rehearsals are from 7:00 to 9:00 PM on Tuesday evenings at Georgian Bay District Secondary School in Midland, ON. We rehearse from September to June with a break over the Christmas season. Our first rehearsal of the year is on September 15th 2026.
Are all sections open?
At this time, one or two sections are full, but availability can change throughout the year. Fill out the form below, and we’ll let you know if there’s space available right now.
Does it cost anything to join?
You are welcome to try out our group without paying any dues. If you join our band, we have membership dues of $100 per year ($50 for students) payable in installments throughout the season. This helps fund our insurance, rehearsal venue, and sheet music costs. We are happy to make accommodations if you aren’t able to pay.
What if I play piano?
We have a few pieces this season that will require piano, but many concert band pieces don’t have parts written for piano. However, piano translates really well into playing percussion. It is possible for mallet percussion instruments are very easy for piano players to pick-up and are all provided by the band. It’s definitely different from playing traditional piano, but playing with a group of people has its own rewards.
