Matthew Rodnick

Music Director & Conductor

Matthew Rodnick has served as Music Director of the Georgian Shores Concert Band since 2022. Under his direction, the ensemble has grown into a regional musical force of approximately 60 musicians, drawing members from Barrie, Meaford, Muskoka, and communities throughout Georgian Bay. He has led the band in ambitious performances of original wind-band repertoire, large-scale works, Canadian music, and collaborations with distinguished guest artists.

Matthew currently serves as the music teacher at Georgian Bay District Secondary School, where he directs an extensive extracurricular program that includes the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, school musical, and the Junior Bears Band Program for local elementary students. In 2025, Matthew received the Distinguished Teacher Award from the Simcoe County District School Board and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation. In 2026, the Ontario Band Association presented him with its Excellence in Band Development Award for his work with the music program at Georgian Bay District Secondary School. 


Matthew is a board member and Past-President of the Ontario Band Association and coordinates the OBA/Western University Intermediate Honour Band. He previously served on the Board of Directors and conference committees of the Ontario Music Educators’ Association. In 2026, Matthew was awarded the Ontario Band Association’s Honourary Lifetime Achievement award. 


Matthew is a graduate of Western University’s Don Wright Faculty of Music, where he served as President of the Music Education Students’ Association. He earned his Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University in 2017. Earlier in his career, Matthew co-founded and co-conducted the London New Horizons Jazz Band. He has also worked as a clinician and adjudicator with schools throughout Ontario and continues to perform as a trombonist with the Orillia Silver Band.
